Witches Brew To Kick That Cold

The Ultimate Homemade Remedy

Make your own witches brew to help kick that cold

I’m a big fan of natural remedies. I personally believe that many ailments can be treated by with good food, good nutrition, and herbs.

One of my natural remedies is what I refer to as a Witches Brew. Witches Brew is essentially a tea that is made from natural ingredients that are known to be supportive of the immune system. You place all these ingredients along with some filtered water in a small pot (ahem, your cauldron). You simmer it on the stove, like you would a soup. The warm nourishing ingredients are not soothing to the throat, but also provide immune support.

So what exactly is IN Witches Brew?

I’m a big fan of using what you already have in your fridge, and Witches Brew is a great opportunity to use what you already have on hand. There are, however, a few categories of items to include in your Witches Brew.

Herbs

By now, you can tell that I’m a big believer in using herbs to support the body. Herbs can be helpful when trying to kick a sickness. Some herbs to try might include thyme, oregano, rosemary and more.

Roots

Root herbs can be extremely helpful when trying to beat a sickness. These include, ginger, garlic, turmeric, and even horseradish. These types of ingredients have a bit of spiciness to them. This will give your Witches Brew a little bit of a kick. If you REALLY want a kick, add a jalapeño or some cayenne pepper.

Citrus

Citrus fruits such as lemon, limes and oranges are not only delicious but also nutritious. They add a much needed sweetness to the Witches Brew, but also they’re great for you.

High Antioxidant Fruits

I keep dried berries in my cabinet in case of an emergency. Elderberries are a favorite. You can brew them like you would any tea. Cranberries are another option. Around Thanksgiving you can find frozen cranberries. Grab an extra bag to keep in your freezer for an occasion such as this, or to add to your fire cider.

Directions:

Grab your cauldron and simmer the ingredients. Herbs actually lose their efficacy at about 170 degrees. If you’re looking to keep the medicinal value of your herbs, make sure that you keep the brew below 170 degrees.

Keep this on the stove for at least 15 minutes. Use a strainer to strain out the solids and drink it like a tea with some raw honey.
