Panettone French Toast Strata

I love a meal that you can prep the day ahead of time and this strata is no exception.

But what the heck is a strata?

A French toast strata is basically just a French toast casserole. It takes only a few minutes to cut the bread and mix the egg mixture. It almost feels like cheating the next morning while you wait for this delicious dish to get warm. And by the way, I love it when the edges get super crispy and crunchy. It’s delicious!

A strata is a fancy way of saying "casserole". This french toast casserole is over the top given that it's made with delicious panettone.

Ingredients

  • 1 full loaf panettone, cut into to 2 inch cubes

  • 1-8oz package of cream cheese

  • 21/2 cups milk (regular cow milk or non-dairy milk)

  • 8 eggs

  • 6 Tbsp butter, melted and cooled

  • 1/2 C maple syrup

Directions

  • Cut up the panettone into cubes (about 12 cups)
  • Grease a 9x13 pan and arrange half of the bread cubes on the bottom of the pan
  • Spread the cream cheese over the bread a tablespoon at a time
  • In a blender mix together eggs, milk, cooled melted butter, and maple syrup.
  • Add in cream cheese 1 tbsp at a time and quickly pulse the blender
  • Pour egg mixture evenly over the dish.
  • Lightly press down on the layers to moisten
  • Cover and refrigerate 2 to 24 hours (you can actually make this a full 48 hour ahead of time)
  • When you’re ready to bake it, remove it from the oven, and let the pan come to room temperature
  • Bake uncovered at 325 for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the center is no longer giggly and the edges are golden brown.
  • Let stand for 10 minutes before serving
  • Drizzle with maple syrup and enjoy
