Gluten-Free Broccoli Beef

I love Chinese stir-fry takeout. But between the MSG and gluten and other mystery ingredients, I don’t get take out very often. Instead I make it at home. This recipe did not take long to make at all. I let my husband slice all the meat, giving me time to make the marinade and get the broccoli flourettes out of the freezer (fancy, I know).

Don’t forget to taste the sauce and make sure that it’s to your liking. You can always add more ginger or garlic or even honey.

Broccoli Beef Ingredients

  • Steak (I use 1/2 pound of meat per person in my family- this gives us all a good healthy portion)

  • Broccoli (I used 1 bag of organic frozen broccoli, but you could use fresh)

  • Sauce
  • 1/2 cup Coconut aminos

  • 1/2 cup Chicken broth

  • 2 tsp ground ginger

  • 2 tsp ground garlic

  • 2 tsp honey

  • 1 tsbp arrowroot powder

Directions

  • Cut the beef into thin strips. You can use any kind of beef or steaks. I had skirt steaks, so that's what I used.
  • Mix all of the ingredients for the sauce and add to a small bowl with the sliced beef. Let marinade while you get your other ingredients together.
  • Put your broccoli in a skillet with 1 tsp of olive oil. Let it cook until tender, then remove it from the pan.
  • Put the meat (without the sauce) in the skillet. It will need just a minute to cook. While it's cooking prepare your arrowroot powder. You will want to mix the arrow root with some sauce before you add it to your pan. Take about a 1/2 cup of sauce and put in a small dish. Add the arrowroot and mix well with a fork. (if you skip this step you run the risk of your arrowroot lumping and clumping into a gleatenous mass in your sause.
  • Before adding the arrowroot to the pan remove your steak.
  • Once your arrowroot mixture is mixed well, add it to your pan. Stir frequently with a wisk or wooden spoon.
  • Turn up the heat on your sauce and let it thicken while stirring. Once it gets to the desired thickeness, turn down the heat and put the broccoli and steak back into the pan for just a minute to combine all of the ingredients and flavors.
  • Serve this dish with rice, cauliflower rice or as-is.
