Fire Cider is one of those weird remedies that sounds really strange. And the first time I heard about it it was a hard NO for me. Then I read more about the benefits of fire cider.
But before we go there, what the heck is it? Fire cider is a concoction including garlic, onion, citrus, roots like ginger and horseradish, herbs and more. Top with apple cider vinegar and you have your self some fire cider.
The idea is to include natural ingredients that are supportive of the immune system.
Why should you bother to have fire cider in your fridge?
I’ll be honest, this takes a minute to make. Not only do you have to gather all the ingredients, but the fire cider “marinades”, if you will, for 6 weeks before it’s ready. But, in my opinion, it’s worth it. I truly believe in natural remedies. Nature can be powerful if we know how to use it. This is why we should keep our own arsenal of natural remedies. And for me, fire cider is just one of them.

Roots: Garlic, Ginger, Horseradish, Onion
Citrus: Lemon, Lime, Orange
Hot peppers such as jalapeño
Herbs: Thyme, Rosemary, Oregano, Cinnamon
High antioxidant berries such as elderberry, cranberry
Directions
- Chop the onion, garlic, horseradish and ginger. These don’t need to be small pieces – just give them a rough chop.
- Slice the citrus and place it in the jar in a way that will encourage the items in the jar to be packed down.
- Chop the hot peppers and add to the jar.
- Add herbs to the jar
- Sprinkle in the antioxidant berries
- Place a piece of parchment on top of the jar before placing the lid on the jar
- Put it in your fridge and let it marinate for 6 weeks
- At the end of 6 weeks, strain and place in a clean jar in your fridge
Part of the creativity of fire cider is to find the freshest ingredients that are available to you. Just remember you can customize fire cider any way you like it.
