Citrus BBQ Sauce

Easy homemade citrus BBQ sauce

Have I told you that I CAN NOT stand going to the grocery store for ONE item? Seriously, ONE item! I have to drive 10 mins to the store, find parking for my giant truck (a story for another day), walk what seems like miles into the store only to brave the crowds (why are people so grouchy) only to get ONE item. Then deal with the self checkout machine where I remember that I did not, in all actuality, receive job training for this machine, and focus on breathing rather than losing my … stuff… on the machine (yes, the item is in the bag). And then drive back home. It is SUCH a waste of time.

I want my life to be filled with more ease, not more errands, so in times like this I get in my kitchen and find a solution. It turns out that BBQ sauce is really a ketchup based sauce. For this recipe I used blood orange juice, but honestly you can use any fruit juice you want. The idea is to cut the thickness and give the sauce some tang. If you like BBQ sauce hot, add some chili flakes. This is just an easy recipe that it’s easy to make it your own.

This is a basic BBQ sauce recipe using ketchup as the base. If you don’t have ketchup you can use tomato sauce as the base, keep in mind that you will need to sweeten it because ketchup does have a lot of sugar in it.

Regardless, I hope this recipe saves you from having to go to the grocery store for ONE item.
