Can you freeze it?

Ahh the freezer!

One way I make the most of my food budget is to use my freezers wisely. The problem with the freezer? Not all foods freeze well. Some end up to be a soggy mess, others end up to be ok. So which foods are the best to freeze, while others aren’t?

Well, my friend, I made a handy dandy list for you to help you make the most of your food budget.

Fruit can be frozen easily.

Stone fruit freezes on a parchment lined cookie sheet with all of the fruit spread out. Once frozen, you can place in a freezer safe bag

Berries are super easy to freeze. Just freeze on a cookie sheet or in a ziplock bag (make sure that the bag is flat and the fruit is not in one huge lump).

Bananas can be frozen on a cookie sheet but it might stick to the sheet / parchment. Also they turn almost entirely brown if left in the freezer for a bit. My advice? Make banana bread and freeze it.

Pastries such as pie crust or puff pastry freeze beautifully

Dairy can get gritty, so if you’re planning on using that frozen cream cheese for a bagel it might not have the right consistency. Instead, use it in a recipe, such as a cheesecake. It will turn out just fine.

You can freeze milk or cream. Again, it won’t have the same consistency once it thaws, however it will work great in baked goods or as an ingredient in dish. I wouldn’t include it as the main event.

Meat freezes great. I love to use my vacuum sealer for preserving meat. Other people, however, have commented to me that butcher paper is their favorite for freezing meat.
