Book Bark: An Easy Halloween Treat
Halloween is one of my favorite seasons. Boo Bark is my own homemade version of a Halloween peppermint bark.
When I first saw something like Boo Bark in Costco I thought that it was such a great treat. And then I wondered if it was real chocolate. Real chocolate, that actually melts because it’s free of waxes and preservatives.
Whenever I see see chocolate that just never seems to melt, it always makes me wonder if there’s more wax than chocolate in the bar.
For this recipe I like to break apart the Boo Bark into smaller pieces and keep it in a ziplock bag in the fridge.
I was walking through Costco one day when I saw something akin to peppermint bark but for Halloween. It had chocolate, chex mix, and treats that remind you of spooky season. After reading the ingredients on the bag, I realized that I could make my own version of Boo Bark, but without all of the preservatives that come with something that's been sitting in Costco for months.
Since I've been selling baked goods I've noticed that my kids like the gluten-free Enjoy Life chocolate chips the most (I've included a link below for reference). They say that these are the chocolate chips that taste most like chocolate.
Ingredients
1 bag of Enjoy Life Chocolate chips
1 bag of candy corn
1 bag of candy pupmpkins
1 bag of mini chocolate chips
sprinkles (optional)
white chocolate chips (optional)
Directions
- Melt the chcolate on a double boiler or in the microwave for 15 to 30 seconds at a tie. Mix the chocolate. Continue to heat slowly until smooth.
- Prepare a cookie sheet with tin foil or parchment paper. Drizzle a layer of chocolate on the cookie sheet.
- Put a layer of pretzel or pretzel chips on the chocolate.
- Add another thin layer of chocolate on top of the pretzels.
- Add your treats to the layer of chocolate. Sprinkle pumpkins, candy corn, and mini peanut butter cups out onto the chocolate.
- Finish with sprinkles and a chocolate drizzle.
